Deal Announcement! – Debut Trilogy sold to Gollancz!

After years, and years, and years of hard work, I finally have my first book deal! My debut epic fantasy trilogy has been acquired by Brendan Durkin at Gollancz, who will be publishing the series in the UK and Commonwealth (so the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and a few other places, but not Canada or the US). The first book, THE HAND OF THE SUN KING, will be published in August of 2021.

This is, quite frankly, super wild. Gollancz is one of the premier genre publishers in the UK. They’re the house that introduced the world to Joe Abercrombie, for crying out loud. I couldn’t have asked for a better publisher in the UK. This is literally a dream come true.

Even wilder, it’s on Goodreads already! And people have added it to their To-Read shelves?!?* And someone added it to the “Can’t Wait Sci-Fi/Fantasy of 2021” list?!!?!?! If you would like to add it to YOUR to-read shelf, which is something you can do even if you don’t live in the UK, have at it!

*Granted, mostly people who know me in real life. But a few of them don’t! Which is very exciting!

Wilder still, the hardcover edition of the book is already available for preorder (again, in the UK and other countries where Gollancz will be distributing). It’s listed here on Amazon.co.uk. Preordering from your local (British or Australian or New Zealander, etc.) indie bookstore is the best way to support the publishing industry ecosystem, but I’m putting the Amazon link here anyway because AHHHHHHHH IT’S MY BOOK! And you can ORDER it!??!!

AHHHHHHH SO COOOOOL

We’re still working on the set-up for distribution in the US, but the book WILL be coming to the US in some capacity, so stay tuned for those details!

I’ve already done this on Twitter, but I need to thank my beta readers Jon Ficke, Erin Cairns, and Don Allmon, who helped me kick this book into shape across two drafts on the way to getting my agent. I also need to thank Joshua Bilmes for his excellent representation, and for helping me to further kick the book into shape on the way to selling it. As well as Stevie Finegan, Joshua’s proxy in the UK on this deal who found the perfect home for it. And finally, my editor Brendan Durkin, whose edits and revision suggestions and kicking the book’s ass one final time to make it even better before you all get to read it.

This is the most exciting thing to happen to me since my wedding.
